Donghu Lake provides Wuhan citizens and tourists with a vibrant waterfront for leisure and recreation. Additionally, the design fosters ideal habitats for ecological diversity. The first and second phases of the East Lake Greenway were quickly well-received by the public and have become important tourism projects in the city. The third phase started construction in 2023 and required a higher level of integration of cultural landscapes into the design; phase three highlights the region’s unique characteristics and landscapes. This is achieved through the creation of landscape nodes, which meet the people’s needs for functional, cultural, ecological, and aesthetic spaces.
SWA’s design for the final phase of the East Lake Greenway is founded in the site’s proximity to water, taking on the name “Blue Loop – Closing Loop.”
